SUMMARY:Basic Defensive Handgun
DESCRIPTION:Basic Defensive Handgun is a practical classroom and hands-on class in the use of a handgun in self- defense. Jeff Cooper\, the legendary founder of Gunsite Academy\, is quoted as having said\, “Owning a handgun doesn’t make you armed any more than owning a guitar makes you a musician.” Although marksmanship skill is critical to the ability to use a handgun in self-defense\, marksmanship alone is not sufficient. \nThis class addresses the basic information\, skills\, and situations relating to the use of a handgun as a self-defense tool and is also taught as a Women-Only-Taught-by-a-Female-Instructor class. The class provides an overview of the legal\, psychological\, and law-enforcement response issues (These are also covered in greater depth a separate Indy Arms classroom courses; Essentials of Indiana Gun Law\, Practical and Legal Realities of Self-Defense\, and USCCA Concealed Carry) \nThis class focuses on the fundamental safety\, marksmanship and manipulation skills required to use a handgun effectively. (Carrying\, drawing\, and the associated equipment are covered in a separate Indy Arms hands-on course\, Tactical Handgun I\, II\, and III.) This course will consist of about 2 ½ hours of classroom and “dry” handling and drills\, and about 1 ½ hours of live-fire range time. The class is nominally four hours in length\, but may sometimes run a little run longer\, depending on attendance and the number of questions. \nThis class has been developed by experts on Indy Arms staff\, including nationally recognized authors and presenters\, and career firearms instructors and law-enforcement trainers. \nThe class will include the use of a rental gun at no additional cost. Students may use their own defensive handgun and ammo. \nStudents will receive a detailed course handout and additional information on available resources. \nCourse Goal \n“To allow the student to gain an understanding of basic handgun skills\, and practice those basic skills with expert coaching and advice.” \nLessons \n\nBasic Firearm and Range Safety\nOverview of the legal\, psychological\, and law enforcement issues relating to defensive firearm use.\nThe Basics of Firearms Use and Handling.\nDry Handling and Practice in the classroom.\nLive-Fire Range Exercises\nReview and Questions\n\nPrerequisites: None. DESCRIPTION:Interested in learning how to shoot a handgun? \nIntroduction to Handgun is a basic course designed for people with little or no firearms experience. This course will provide a safe and enjoyable first exposure to handguns and shooting. \nThis class is divided into two sessions. The classroom session\, lasting 60 to 75 minutes\, allows students to learn the fundamentals of shooting handguns including safety\, basic function\, loading and unloading\,  grip\, stance\, sight picture\, and trigger control. During the live-fire session\, students will  have the opportunity to handle\, load\, and fire one of our training handguns in .22 caliber and will fire up to 50 rounds of ammunition in order to build skill and competence. The course concludes with a wrap-up session in the classroom to review lessons learned and answer any questions that students may have. \nThe class is available multiple times throughout the week and has limited offerings taught as a Women-Only-Taught-by-a-Female-Instructor class; please refer to our online training calendar for scheduling. Click here \nPrerequisites: None \nCost: $ 59.00 per person \n(ATTENTION: Classes after May 01\, 2023 the price will be $69.00) \nIncluded: \n\n.22LR Handguns and 50 Rounds of 22LR Ammunition (no charge\, if necessary)\nStudents are welcome to bring their own handgun and ammunition\, but are encouraged to use our training guns and ammo.\nPersonal Protection Equipment: Eye and Ear Rental (no charge\, if necessary)\nTarget\n\nCustomer Responsibility: \n\nComplete Liability Waiver prior to the start of class –  Click Here\nArrive at least 15 minutes prior to class for check in\n\nNOTES: \n\nThis class is available for private parties and other group events\nOther handguns may be rented for $10.00 each; rental handguns must use ammunition purchased from Indy Arms\nStudents under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult (ask about a youth discount for training classes)\nStudents arriving more than 10 minutes after the designated start time may not be allowed into class and will need to reschedule\n\n  \n***Please arrive 15- 20 minutes early to complete the necessary check in process before any training class. This will give us time to verify your range waiver at the counter. This is also the time to buy ammo\, holster\, hearing and/ or eye protection or anything else you will need for the class.
