SUMMARY:Introduction to Rifle
DESCRIPTION:Interested in learning how to shoot a rifle (specifically AR (ArmaLite Rifle)-15’s)? \nIntroduction to Rifle is a basic course designed for people with little or no firearms experience. This course will provide a safe and enjoyable first exposure to long guns (rifles) and shooting. \nThis class is divided into two sessions. The classroom session\, lasting 60 to 75 minutes\, allows students to learn the fundamentals of rifle shooting including safety\, basic functions\, loading and unloading\, mounting\, stance\, sight picture\, and trigger control. During the live-fire session\, students will have the opportunity to handle\, load\, and fire one of our training AR-15s chambered in .22 caliber and will fire up to 50 rounds of ammunition in order to build skill and competence. The course concludes with a wrap-up session in the classroom to review lessons learned and answer any questions that students may have. \nThe class is offered one or two times a month and is the recommended first step before taking out Basic Defensive Rifle class. DESCRIPTION:Basic Defensive Handgun is a practical classroom and hands-on class in the use of a handgun in self- defense. Jeff Cooper\, the legendary founder of Gunsite Academy\, is quoted as having said\, “Owning a handgun doesn’t make you armed any more than owning a guitar makes you a musician.” Although marksmanship skill is critical to the ability to use a handgun in self-defense\, marksmanship alone is not sufficient. \nThis class addresses the basic information\, skills\, and situations relating to the use of a handgun as a self-defense tool and is also taught as a Women-Only-Taught-by-a-Female-Instructor class. The class provides an overview of the legal\, psychological\, and law-enforcement response issues (These are also covered in greater depth a separate Indy Arms classroom courses; Essentials of Indiana Gun Law\, Practical and Legal Realities of Self-Defense\, and USCCA Concealed Carry) \nThis class focuses on the fundamental safety\, marksmanship and manipulation skills required to use a handgun effectively. (Carrying\, drawing\, and the associated equipment are covered in a separate Indy Arms hands-on course\, Tactical Handgun I\, II\, and III.) This course will consist of about 2 ½ hours of classroom and “dry” handling and drills\, and about 1 ½ hours of live-fire range time. SUMMARY:Tactical Rifle 1
DESCRIPTION:Tactical Rifle 1 is an informational and hands-on class in the use of the modern semi-automatic rifle as a home defense weapon and extends the training provided in Indy Arms’ Basic Defensive Rifle course. Tactical Rifle 1 moves beyond basic accuracy and safety to include use of force for home defense\, shooting from cover\, multiple target engagement\, and shooting and moving. The class is based on the most common self-defense rifles\, of which the AR15 platform is the overwhelmingly dominant example. The Ruger Mini-14 (based on the Garand platform) and the AK family of rifles (commonly but incorrectly referred to as the AK47) are also suitable for the class (if you are bringing a rifle other than an AR15 platform\, please inform Indy Arms when you register for the class). \nTactical Rifle 1 includes lecture\, dry fire and live-fire sessions and can be shot with both iron sights and with optics if those are available. This course will consist of about 2 hours of classroom material and practice\, and about 2 hours of live-fire range time. The class is nominally four hours in length\, but sometimes runs a bit longer\, based on student questions. \nStudents will shoot 200 rounds of ammunition. \nCourse Goal\n“To begin the structured development of the fundamental skills required to comfortably and effectively use a semi-auto rifle for home/personal defense\, and to provide the student with techniques and exercises to develop and refine these skills.” \nLessons \n\nBasic Rifle\, Home\, and Range Safety\nCommon Malfunctions\nSpeed loading\nMultiple shots and multiple targets\nMoving and scanning\nUse of cover\nReview and Questions\n\nPrerequisites: Students taking Tactical Rifle 1 should have an understanding of simple marksmanship\, and the basic operation of their rifle. SUMMARY:Handgun Optics
DESCRIPTION:Handgun Optics concentrates on essential skills required to use a handgun with optical sights (commonly refer to as Red Dot sights) as an effective self-defense tool. This is the perfect class if you are wanting to fully understand your optics including techniques to ‘zero’ your optic\, or are new to optics and want to make sure they are right for you. \n\nBasic marksmanship ability\, drawing and presenting to the optic\, and additional issues present with optical sights will be discussed. This class will discuss the various optics options\, pros and cons of the use of optics\, and the challenges that need to be addressed to maximize the use of these modern electronic sights. \nThe class will consist of about 2.5 hours of classroom time and 1.5 hours of live-fire range time. The class requires 100 rounds of ammunition. \nCourse Goal To provide each student with the knowledge to make an informed choice of whether to use an optic or not.  Additionally\, drills will be provided to further the student’s skills in optimizing an optics mounted handgun. \nLessons \n\nSafety\nHistory and advantages and disadvantages of optics\nChallenges to optimizing optics\nDrawing ‘to the dot’ from your carry holster or carry purse\nZeroing your optic\nBasic defensive live-fire\nScanning and simple movement\n\nPrerequisites: Students taking Handgun Optics should have an understanding of simple marksmanship\, and the basic operation of their handgun. Individuals taking this class are encouraged to have the personal handgun with optics that they intend to use/carry for personal defense\, along with a suitable outside-the-waistband holster or carry purse with a dedicated department for firearms carry. Students may make use of a provided OWB Kydex paddle holster and training gun (Glock 9mm with optic).  Indy Arms Basic Defensive Handgun\, Advanced Defensive Handgun and/or USCCA Concealed Carry Handgun are acceptable prerequisites\, as are most classes from recognized shooting schools. DESCRIPTION:USCCA Concealed Carry\n\nThe USCCA Concealed Carry class is a defensive handgun course for those who carry\, or are considering carrying\, a handgun for self-defense. \nThe United States Concealed Carry Association (USCCA) is one of the preeminent training organizations in the country providing Concealed Carry Handgun and Home Defense classes\, and a broad range of superb training publications\, videos\, and on-line programs.  The USCCA also provides a range of excellent self-defense firearm legal insurance programs.  Indy Arms is proud to currently have five USCCA-certified firearms instructors (and three USCCA Training Counselors) on our training staff (and all of those instructors are also certified by other major training organizations\, including the National Rifle Association\, Tactical Training Associates\, and the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy). \nUSCCA Concealed Carry is an informational and hands-on class in the carrying and use of a handgun in self-defense.  Jeff Cooper\, the legendary founder of Gunsite Academy\, is credited with saying\, “Owning a handgun doesn’t make you armed any more than owning a guitar makes you a musician.”  This class is meant to address that issue by providing some of the basic knowledge and skills that will contribute to your being effectively armed. \nThe class covers firearms handling safety\, range safety\, and personal safety.  We summarize the legal\, psychological\, and law-enforcement response issues involved in using a firearm for self-defense.  (And for those wanting more information\, these topics are covered in extreme detail in a separate Indy Arms classroom course\, Fundamentals of Armed Self-Defense.)  We practice basic handling\, operation\, and shooting skills with training guns\, “dry” in the classroom.  And the course concludes with live-fire session on the range allowing students to train with their own defensive handgun (rentals available) through a series of defensive drills. \nThis course will consist of about 4.5 hours of classroom material and practice\, and about 1.5 hours of live-fire range time but sometimes runs a bit longer\, based on student questions. \nThe class will include the use of a rental gun at no additional cost.  Students should bring 125 rounds of practice ammo for their gun of choice. \nCourse Goal \n“To allow the student to experience first-hand some of the skills and challenges inherent in the use of a firearm in self-defense\, and to provide information and basics that will allow the student to practice and improve those skills.” \nLessons \n\nDeveloping a Personal Protection Plan\nSelf-Defense Firearms Basics\nDefensive Shooting Fundamentals\nThe Legal Use of Force\nViolent Encounters and Their Aftermath\nGear and Gadgets\nSuggestions for Practicing Basic and Advanced Skills\n\nPrerequisites: None. DESCRIPTION:Tactical Handgun III is the third in a series of three Tactical Handgun classes that address the essential skills required to use a handgun as an effective self-defense tool. Basic marksmanship ability and an understanding of the rule of law governing the use of force in self-defense are certainly a necessary part of this skill set. But for those seeking serious competence\, a much broader set of abilities is required. Each of the three Tactical Handgun classes builds on the skills and techniques taught and practiced in the preceding classes. \nTactical Handgun III\, though an extension of Tactical Handgun I and II\, is different\, in that it has been designed to be to taken multiple times. SUMMARY:Bowling Pin Shooting
DESCRIPTION:Every Last Tuesdays the Month (5-8pm)\n \nIndy Arms hosts Bowling Pin Matches every last Tuesday of the Month from 5-8pm (must be signed in by 7:30pm).  These matches are $15 for the first gun ($10 each additional) and are timed events.  Shooters sign up at the door and we will run all participants that sign up by 7:30pm. \n\nOctober 29th\, Tuesday 5-8pm\nNovember 26th\, Tuesday 5-8pm\nDecember 31st\, Tuesday 5-8pm\n\n\nRules\nDistance: 7 Yards (21 feet) \nPins:  Five full-sized bowling pins (4 pounds pre-shooting) \nTable: 4’ X 8’ with pins set at 1 foot back from the leading edge \nPin Set Up: The 5 pins will be set up at 15” intervals \nFormat: Matches are timed (start signal to shot clearing last pin or 30 seconds which ever happens first) and each string (5 pins in 30 seconds) will be scored by total time with 3 second penalties for uncleared pins.  If the shooter runs out of rounds before 30 seconds and with uncleared pins their score will be 30 seconds + 3 seconds for each uncleared pin. Final score will be the best two runs of three.  Each shooter will run three strings and the best two will be combined for their score in seconds.  Low scores are better. \nUncleared Pins:  For ‘Heavy Metal’ center-fire (Revolvers\, Unlimited and Stock semi-automatics chambered in higher than 9mm or .38 special) a pin is not cleared until it is fully off the table.  For rim-fire\, stock semi-automatic\, unlimited\, and stock revolver (chambered in 9mm or .38 special or smaller) a pin is cleared if it is knocked over. \nMagazines:  Guns can be loaded up to 9 rounds and up to two additional magazines/speed loaders may be used (no more than 18 rounds may be shot during the 30 second run). \nAmmunition: High-velocity\, higher grain FMJ bullets are recommended (54 rounds maximum per gun\, 3 runs of 18 rounds) \nSafety and Course of Fire:  Range Safety Officer (RSO) commands are mandatory and failure to comply is grounds for immediate disqualification.  Commands include “Shooter to the line\,” “Range going hot\, eyes and ears\,” “Shooter load and make ready\,” “Standby\,” (gun should be off target\, pointed in a safe direction)\, “BEEP” (start your run)\, “BEEP” (stop shooting)\, “Shooter show clear\, gun down ammo out\, action open\,”  “Range is Clear.”  Reset pins for next run. \nCost: $15 for the first and $10 each additional entry \nDivisions: \n\nRim Fire: Unlimited\, any rim-fire (typically .22lr) pistol\nRevolver: Unlimited\, any center-fire revolver of .38 Special or smaller\nSemi-Automatic Stock:  Any center-fire semi-automatic handgun with open iron sights\, no extensive modifications to the frame\, no changes to the balance or weight\, no compensated barrels\, or trigger pulls under 3 pounds chambered in 9mm or smaller.\nSemi-Automatic Unlimited:  Any center-fire semi-automatic that does not fit the definition of stock chambered in 9mm or smaller.\nHeavy Metal: Unlimited\, any center-fire revolver or semi-automatic chambered in a round larger than 9mm or .28 special\n\nPrizes:  There will be swag packs\, Indy Arms Shooting Challenge Patches\, and free entry into one Indy Arms competition (GSSF\, House League\, IDPA\, or Bowling) for each of the four divisions per match. \nRocking the ‘Heavy Metal’ 10mm! The class provides an overview of the legal\, psychological\, and law-enforcement response issues (These are also covered in greater depth a separate Indy Arms classroom courses; Essentials of Indiana Gun Law\, Practical and Legal Realities of Self-Defense\, and USCCA Concealed Carry) \nThis class focuses on the defensive accuracy and handgun manipulation skills required to use a handgun effectively including carrying\, clearing malfunctions\, and reloading. This course will consist of about 2 ½ hours of classroom and “dry” handling and drills\, and about 1 ½ hours of live-fire range time. Jeff Cooper\, the legendary founder of Gunsite Academy\, is quoted as having said\, “Owning a handgun doesn’t make you armed any more than owning a guitar makes you a musician.” Although marksmanship skill is critical to the ability to use a handgun in self-defense\, marksmanship alone is not sufficient. \nThis class addresses the basic information\, skills\, and situations relating to the use of a handgun as a self-defense tool and is also taught as a Women-Only-Taught-by-a-Female-Instructor class. The class provides an overview of the legal\, psychological\, and law-enforcement response issues (These are also covered in greater depth a separate Indy Arms classroom courses; Essentials of Indiana Gun Law\, Practical and Legal Realities of Self-Defense\, and USCCA Concealed Carry) \nThis class focuses on the fundamental safety\, marksmanship and manipulation skills required to use a handgun effectively. DESCRIPTION:Basic Defensive Rifle\nBasic Defensive Rifle is an informational and hands-on class in the use of the modern semi-automatic rifle as a home defense weapon. The class is based on the most common self-defense rifles\, of which the AR15 platform is the overwhelmingly dominant example. The Ruger Mini-14 (based on the Garand platform) and the AK family of rifles (commonly but incorrectly referred to as the AK47) are also suitable for the class (if you are bringing a rifle other than an AR15 platform\, please inform Indy Arms when you register for the class). \nRifles are extremely effective home self-defense weapons\, and they have both advantages and limitations. These need to be understood and respected to use the rifle effectively and safely. \nRifle handling safety\, range safety\, and safe storage are addressed. We will go through the basic operating systems of these platforms\, and the most common malfunctions. We will practice basic handling\, operation\, loading and unloading with dummy ammunition in the classroom\, and proper mounting of the rifle and use of the sights. The course concludes with live-fire session on the range\, shot at various distances and speeds. And can be shot with both iron sights and with optics if those are available. It is important to have usable iron sights on the firearm. Optics can be finicky\, depend on batteries\, and can sometimes be difficult to dial in. \nThis course will consist of about 2 ½ hours of classroom material and practice\, and about 1 ½ hours of live-fire range time.
