DESCRIPTION:Basic Defensive Handgun is a practical classroom and hands-on class in the use of a handgun in self- defense. Jeff Cooper\, the legendary founder of Gunsite Academy\, is quoted as having said\, “Owning a handgun doesn’t make you armed any more than owning a guitar makes you a musician.” Although marksmanship skill is critical to the ability to use a handgun in self-defense\, marksmanship alone is not sufficient. \nThis class addresses the basic information\, skills\, and situations relating to the use of a handgun as a self-defense tool and is also taught as a Women-Only-Taught-by-a-Female-Instructor class. The class provides an overview of the legal\, psychological\, and law-enforcement response issues (These are also covered in greater depth a separate Indy Arms classroom courses; Essentials of Indiana Gun Law\, Practical and Legal Realities of Self-Defense\, and USCCA Concealed Carry) \nThis class focuses on the fundamental safety\, marksmanship and manipulation skills required to use a handgun effectively. (Carrying\, drawing\, and the associated equipment are covered in a separate Indy Arms hands-on course\, Tactical Handgun I\, II\, and III.) This course will consist of about 2 ½ hours of classroom and “dry” handling and drills\, and about 1 ½ hours of live-fire range time. The class is nominally four hours in length\, but may sometimes run a little run longer\, depending on attendance and the number of questions. \nThis class has been developed by experts on Indy Arms staff\, including nationally recognized authors and presenters\, and career firearms instructors and law-enforcement trainers. \nThe class will include the use of a rental gun at no additional cost. DESCRIPTION:Tactical Handgun 4\n\nTactical Handgun IV is the fourth in a series of four Tactical Handgun classes that address the essential skills required to use a handgun as an effective self-defense tool. Basic marksmanship ability and an understanding of the rule of law governing the use of force in self-defense are certainly a necessary part of this skill set. But for those seeking serious competence\, a much broader set of abilities is required. Each of the four Tactical Handgun classes builds on the skills and techniques taught and practiced in the preceding classes. \nTactical Handgun IV\, though an extension of Tactical Handgun I\, II\, and III is different\, in that it has been designed to be to taken multiple times. Though the course of fire in Tactical Handgun I\, II\, and III is the same each time the class is taken\, Tactical Handgun IV is designed to integrate various skills in challenging drills that will differ each time the class is taken. \nThe class will consist of about 15-30 minutes of classroom time and 3.5 hours of live-fire range time \nThe class requires 150-400 rounds of ammunition depending on the drills and skills focused on. \nCourse Goal \nTo continue the structured development of the fundamental skills required to comfortably and effectively carry and use a handgun for personal defense\, building on the techniques and exercises previously practiced in Tactical Handgun I\, II\, and III in order to develop and refine those skills and add additional skills to the student’s defensive ability. \nLessons \n\nContinued development of presentation skills\nAdvanced Defensive Fire\nIntegrative skills (combining multiple elements)\n\nPrerequisites: Students taking Tactical Handgun IV should have completed Indy Arms Tactical Handgun III. This course will provide a safe and enjoyable first exposure to long guns (rifles) and shooting. \nThis class is divided into two sessions. The classroom session\, lasting 60 to 75 minutes\, allows students to learn the fundamentals of rifle shooting including safety\, basic functions\, loading and unloading\, mounting\, stance\, sight picture\, and trigger control. During the live-fire session\, students will have the opportunity to handle\, load\, and fire one of our training AR-15s chambered in .22 caliber and will fire up to 50 rounds of ammunition in order to build skill and competence. The course concludes with a wrap-up session in the classroom to review lessons learned and answer any questions that students may have. \nThe class is offered one or two times a month and is the recommended first step before taking out Basic Defensive Rifle class.
