IAC CONCEALED CARRY

Description

IAC Concealed Carry is a discussion and hands-on class in that will familiarize the participants with the issues, skills, and intricacies of carrying a handgun for self defense.  The emphasis is on safe and effective concealed carry.  In Indiana, possessing a license to carry a handgun gives one the legal right to carry openly.  However, there are many problems associated with this.  And in many States which grant reciprocity to Indiana carry-permits, the legal requirement is that the firearm be carried concealed.  So it is important to understand the legal and safety issues involved in concealed carry of a firearm, and to possess the skills and equipment to do so.

This class will address the basic legal framework of concealed carry in Indiana and other States.  We will discuss and demonstrate the suitability (or lack thereof) of various handguns for concealed carry.  We will look at various methods of concealed carry – on the waist, on the ankle, and in the pocket, purse, fanny pack, brief case, etc. – and go through the pros and cons of each.

The class members will then engage in structured practice on drawing or “presenting” the firearm from concealment, acquiring the target, preparing to engage, and returning the firearm to the concealed condition, while maintaining situational awareness.  Movement and acquiring cover will also be incorporated.  These will be non-shooting drills.  The emphasis will be on smoothness and safety, and on making sure that the student’s preferred method of carry and equipment actually work,

This course will consist of about an hour of classroom and discussion, and about two hours of hands-on dry handling drills.

This class has been developed by experts on Indy Arms staff, including nationally recognized authors and presenters, and career firearms instructors and law-enforcement trainers, and will be taught by experts in this field.

Participants may use their own firearms and holsters, etc., but the class will include the use of sample guns and holsters if desired.  Participants will receive a detailed course handout and additional information on available resources.
