Looking to buy a firearm in Indiana? We have you covered.
Step 1 – You need to be an Indiana resident 21 or older to buy a handgun.
- A resident of ANY state who is 18 or older can buy a rifle or shotgun in Indiana, however. If you are not an Indiana resident, we must comply with the laws of the state in which you reside, including but not limited to: firearm restrictions, magazine capacity restrictions, waiting periods, and licensing requirements.
Step 2- You need to have a valid state ID or Drivers License.
- The address on your valid ID must be current. The ID must be government issued and not expired.
- If your ID does not bear your current address, you need to provide supplemental government documentation with your current address on it. Supplemental documentation must have a government form number and your name and address printed on it. Commonly used examples include: Indiana License to Carry Handgun, hunting or fishing license, vehicle registration, speeding ticket, court summons, TSA pre-check form, etc. Note that utility bills or other mail do not meet this requirement.
Step 3 – The Paperwork
- After you select your firearm, you will need to complete a federal form 4473. This form must be filled out by anyone purchasing or otherwise receiving a firearm from a licensed dealer (FFL) in the US, and must be filled out in-store. The information provided on this form will be used to initiate an instant background check with the FBI’s National Instant Check System (NICS).
- Waiting Period – Indiana does not have a mandatory waiting period for firearm purchases, BUT your transaction may be delayed during the NICS background check process.
Perks of buying a firearm from Indy Arms Company:

Other important information:
- We reserve the right to refuse to sell a firearm to any person for any reason. We will NOT process sales to anyone we suspect of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or that we suspect to be Straw Purchases.
- Once a firearm has been transferred to its new owner, that firearm is considered USED (per ATF regulations) and cannot be returned for a full refund. Indy Arms Company has a No Regrets policy on new firearm purchases, and does purchase used firearms.
